General Guidelines for Source Recording Media

The following are accepted source formats:

  • Red Book CDR (Audio CDR)
  • Data CDR (Pro Tools, etc.)
  • External Hard Drive (Mac OS and Windows accepted)
  • Masterlink CD24 (16, 20,24 bit @ 44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96 kHz)
  • 1/2” or 1/4” analog tape @ 15 or 30 IPS (Call Ahead for ¼ tape)
  • DAT (16 bit, 44.1 or 48 kHz)

Please make sure you:

  • Provide clearly marked and labeled source media: project title, band name, and record label information including catalog/scribe info (for vinyl).
  • Include song titles, song lengths, track sequence and total running time. For vinyl mastering, please note where you would like the side break.
  • Listen to the source prior to sending it to ensure that there are no issues (glitch, distortion, skips, etc.)
  • Provide instructions/information that you would like the mastering engineer to know. Please make note of anything out of the ordinary about the source recording that is intentional (distortion, skipping, clipping, etc.) as it may otherwise be mistaken as a problem.
  • Provide instructions on “trimming” heads/tails of the songs. Everything (stick clicks, room noise, talking, etc.) will be left in unless otherwise instructed. Audio/Data CD
  • Please use high quality CD media. Use caution when burning at high speeds. High speed copying can cause audio errors and dropouts.
  • Make sure sessions are “Disk at Once” closed sessions.

Analog Tape

  • We accept 1/2" or 1/4" two-track tape at either 15 or 30 IPS. If your master is imprinted with noise reduction please let us know in advance.
  • IMPORTANT: alignment tones must be included on your source tape: 30 sec @1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 Hz, 50 Hz. We will not be able to properly align our machine without these tones.

DAT

  • Start the audio one minute (1:00) into the tape to prevent errors.
  • Each song must have its own track index.
  • Please clearly mark tape with sample rate info (44.1 or 48khz). Do not mix sample rates on the same tape.
